This week we went to visit Juanita and she told us some bad news. Her 22 year old son was not happy when she told him about her decision to be baptized and she explained how her family is all she has and doesnt want to loose them so she is unsure about following through with the baptism. We lovingly testified of blessings that have come into our lives from the gospel and that God will help everything work out. My companion suggested that we all three do a special fast to help soften the heart of her son and to give Juanita strength. She fasted for 24 hours with us and during that time we were studying as much as we could to find something to help her. Before the fast we assinged her to begin reading the first chapter of The Book of Mormon. After we went to visit her and she absolutely loved it! We are going to continue working with her and hopefully all will be well.
Since being in the mission field I have really learned a lot about fasting. I dont think I have ever fasted so much in my life. There is always something or someone who needs extra blessings. Fasting has become more than just going without food and water, but truly thinking of a specific purpose, beginning with a humble prayer, holdnig my purpose in my heart and mind during the entire fast, and allowing myself to have spiritual experiences. It is during those humbling times during my fast that I recieve more personal revelation and recognize answers to prayers. Fasting truly is such a powerful and beautiful experience.
Also, today we were able to take a trip to the beach!!! WHOOHOO! I have been waiting for my turn and I had such a great time. As i sat looking out at the waves I coudnt help but think about my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ and the beautiful world that has been created for us to live on. I am so grateful for the opportuinity to be serving a mission. My eyes have been opened to a completely different perspecitve and I am beginning to realize how much I am truly capable of.
Thank you all for your support and love. I pray for you often and feel your prayers every day. Have a wonderful week and please enjoy those fall leaves for me :):)
con amor,
Hermana Parkin
